China announces military drills following a meeting between Taiwan's President and the US House Speaker
China has announced that it will conduct military exercises near Taiwan for three consecutive days starting from Saturday. The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army made the announcement on Saturday, stating that the decision was in response to the recent meeting between Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen and US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The scale of the patrols and exercises planned in the waters and airspace near Taiwan is unknown. However, the decision by China has raised concerns among neighboring countries, especially Taiwan, which has urged China to avoid any actions that may affect peace and stability in the region.
Tensions between China and Taiwan have been on the rise in recent months due to China's increasing political and military pressures on the autonomous island, which it considers part of its territory. This announcement of military exercises by China only exacerbates the situation, and the international community hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
